       ఎందుకో ఈ రోజు nicknames గురించి తలంపు వచ్చింది. అలా వచ్చిందో లెదో ఇలా మా కోవై సరళ enter అయింది. మా పని పిల్లకి ( పిల్ల అంటే పిల్ల కాదు, చాలా పెద్ద తల్లే. .) నేను కొవై సరళ అని పేరు పెట్టుకున్నా. అమ్మా నాన్న ఎంతో ఆలోచించి న భూతో న భవిష్యతి అన్నట్టు ఓ అధ్భుతమైన పేరు పెట్టీ, తర్వాత ఒక acronym, ఒక subset, ఒక miniature version పేరు తయారు చేస్తారు.

       ఇందులో రకాలు ఉన్నాయి. నవరత్నాల్లాంటి categories...

1. పేరు ని చితక్కొట్టి - ముద్దుపేరు. అంటే కృష్ణ కి కిట్టు అలా..
2. పిల్ల, పిల్లవాడు, లేదా మనిషి size ను బట్టి. అంటే చిన్నీ, పొట్టీ ఇలా..
3. అసలు పేరుకి, size, దేనికీ సంబంధం లేకుండా common పేర్లు.. అంటే పండు, కన్న.. అలా..
4. Englishionized పేర్లు.. అంటే సిద్ధార్థ కి సిడ్. కృష్ణ కి క్రిష్.
5. వ్యక్తిత్వం బట్టి పేరు. అంటే టైగర్.. సూర్యకాంతం.. ఇలా.. అంటే మనిషి, భాష, తీరు బట్టి నేను మా కోవై సరళ కి పెట్టుకున్నట్టు.
6. తేనెలొలికే English పేర్లు -- sweety, honey...
7.  అసలు పేరు కి తలో తోకో అంటించడం. సతీష్ కి సత్తిపండు ఇలా..
8. సమయం బట్టి పేరు. ప్రేమగా గా చిట్టి, కొపం గా ఉంటే దుర్మర్గుడా, దుష్టుడా…….
9. తిట్ల లాంటి ముద్దు పేర్లు.. కాని తిట్లు కావుట. అవి ఇక్కడ వద్దులే.

 ఏది ఎమైనా ఈ ముద్దు పేర్ల వలన, మనకీ, పిలిచిన వారికి మథ్య సాన్నిహిత్యం కనపడుతుంది..వినబడుతుంది.

  
   కాకపొతే ఇంట్లో, సన్నిహితుల మథ్య సరే కాని... కొన్ని సార్లు బయట వారి ముందు కూడా మన వాళ్ళు అత్యంత సహజంగా ఈ ముద్దు పేర్ల తో పిలవడం ఒక్కొసారి కాస్త ఇబ్బంది కలిగిస్తుంది.

   అది విని, ఎవరైన లేని చొరవ తీస్కొని అదే పేరు తో పిలిస్తే ఇంకా ఒళ్ళుమండుతుంది.. నిన్నే పెళ్ళాడతా సినిమా లో పండు కి కోపం వచ్చినట్టు.

     నాకు వున్న nickname, ఒక ప్రముఖ గాయకుడి nickname ఒకటే. ఎంటో చెప్పుకోండి చూద్దాం.

    మీరూ ఎప్పుడైనా ఎక్కడైనా ఎదైనా వింత ముద్దు పేర్లు విన్నారా? ఇంతకీ మీకు వున్న nickname ఎంటో మరి..

           Somehow I got the idea of ​​nicknames today. How funny are these. I was just thinking and our Kovai Sarala entered the house. That’s the name I gave to my domestic help, as she resembles a popular comedian Kovai Sarala in all respects. Parents think a lot and name the baby with an exclusive, unique wonderful name and then… derive an acronym, a subset and a miniature version of the name, which is called a nickname.

        There are 9 gemstone categories of nicknames ...

        1. Actual name is broken and beaten up. E.g. Krishna becomes kittu ..

        2. Depending on the size of the child, or man/woman. E.g. Chitti, Potti .. (meaning small in height in Telugu)

        3. Generic names regardless of the original name and size.. ie pandu (fruit), kanna ..

        4. Englishionized Names .. Siddhartha becomes Sid. Krishna to Krish.

        5. Name depending on personality. E.g. tiger

        6. Sweet English Names – E.g. sweety, honey

        7. Adding prefix or suffix to the original name. E.g. Satish -> sattipandu

        8. Name based time/feel. A name when you are lovable and an evil name when not..

        9. Nick name sounds swearing. Let’s not have examples here.

        Nicknames indicate the close relationship we have with the people calling us.

        However, it’s fine at home or amongst the closest friends ... Sometimes it’s little embarrassing to be called them when we are with not so close acquaintances.

       It’s even more distressing when they call out using nicknames without our willingness. Just like heroine gets irritated in the Telugu movie "Ninne Pelladata", when people call her Pandu (, meaning a fruit in Telugu).

       I too share a nickname with a famous playback singer. Any guesses?
